Terms of Service

Reverse Tax Calculator is a free tool published by the team at reversetaxcalculator.com. Using the calculator and reading the blog means you accept the terms below. They're short on purpose.
What the calculator is (and isn't)
The reverse tax calculator applies the standard division formula for backing out tax from a tax-inclusive total. The math is accurate, but a calculator can't see the context of your specific transaction. It doesn't know whether your jurisdiction taxes your particular purchase, whether special exemptions apply, whether rounding rules from a point-of-sale system caused a penny of drift, or whether the rate on your receipt was entered correctly at the store.
Results are an estimate, not tax advice. If you're filing a return, reconciling for an audit, or making a business decision, verify the numbers against your original invoices and consult a CPA or tax professional who knows your jurisdiction. Nothing on this site creates a client relationship or an accountant-client privilege.
Rate data
State-level preset rates come from the Tax Foundation's annual combined state-and-local averages. Those averages are a good starting point but aren't the exact rate for any specific address. Cities, counties, and special taxing districts can push the combined rate above or below the state average. For the actual rate at a specific location, use your state Department of Revenue's address lookup.
Using the site
You can use the calculator and read the blog for any purpose: personal, commercial, or educational. No account required, no attribution required to use the calculator itself. You may link to our pages freely.
What you can't do: copy the blog content, source code, or design wholesale and republish it as your own. The writing, site design, and underlying code are original work and remain the property of their respective authors. Short quotations with attribution are fine under standard fair use.
No warranties
The site is provided "as is." We make no guarantee that the calculator will always be available, that blog posts are current with the latest law change, or that external links will keep working. Tax law changes constantly. Rate tables shift every budget cycle. Check the "Last updated" date on any page before relying on it.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Reverse Tax Calculator and its operators aren't liable for any direct or indirect damages that result from using the site, including incorrect tax filings, audit assessments, missed deadlines, or lost revenue. The tool is free, and you're responsible for deciding whether the output is right for your situation.
Spotted an error?
If you think a rate preset is out of date, a blog post has a math error, or an external link is broken, please email contact@reversetaxcalculator.com. We take corrections seriously and update the relevant page as soon as we can verify the issue.
Changes to these terms
We can update these terms. If changes are material (for example, adding new restrictions on use), the "Last updated" date will move forward and we'll note the change at the top of the page for 30 days. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
